At the beginning of the story, Huck didn’t really have a family. Miss Watson took him in as her own son but in return he would trade her in. Huck’s only biologic family was his father who was a town drunk and was never around. His “Pap hadn’t been seen for more than a year, and that was comfortable for me, I didn’t want to see him no more" (Twain 21). His dad was abusive towards him and maybe the reason why Huck didn’t care for a family. As the story progressed, Huck began to see Jim as a friend and further on in the story, as his own family. Huck’s and Jim’s relationship grows into a brotherhood of a boy who was looked down on by society and a runaway slave.

You both did a very good job, your response was thought out and really related to the topic. We liked that you said that Jim became Huck's family, but we feel that you could have used a quote to support that.We feel like your quote should have been embedded, because while you reading it, you go from second person to first person. Do you think that there was anyone else in Huck's life that he began to regard as family, and why do you think Huck's friends became his family, and yet his family members weren't even friends to him? -Abby Ault and Samantha Lockhart
**Huck’s close friends like Jim and Tom Sawyer became his family. The main reasons why this transpired was because he trusts them, and they were always there for him, and Huck would go to hell for the both of them. As for Huck real family his dad was abusive he only brought Huck pain, and Miss Watson tried to civilize which Huck disliked, this lead to Huck dislike both of them.
