Piggy’s “specs” symbolize his intelligence and he is the one who comes out with the ideas. He gives Ralph the idea that blowing the conch will bring everyone together, this is a major change because the conch is what brought everyone to unite.“He came forward, searching out safe lodgements for his feet, and then looked up through thick spectacles.” (1)

His glasses also represent his weakness. When he takes them off, he is blind and vulnerable, but once he has them on, he is confident. He is picked on because of his physical state and because he is the only one with glasses, it has a great change on him as he is not the same without them as he is with them. “Mind out! Give ‘em back! I can hardly see!” (32)

The moment when he gets his glasses stolen; it can be seen where he changes as he makes the decision to confront Jack to get them back.
