Samneric

”They were twins, and the eye shocked and incredulous at such a cheery duplication. They breathed together, they grinned together, they were chunky and vital (12).”
- This quote represents when the group first met Sam and Eric. They were stunned on how similar they were, Piggy was the only one who took the effort to trying to distinguish who Sam and who was Eric.

“Samneric. Get me a coconut. An empty one (53).”
-This is the first time Sam and Eric are referred to as “Samneric.” this was done by Jack. In referring to them as one entity, this take was there individualism.

“Fifteen yards away from them came the plopping noise of fabric blown open … We saw the beast (86).”
-This is a very memorable scene in the book. The “beast” that terrorized the “littleuns” had finally been seen by one of the older kids, which gave the monster more credulity. Later on, we readers find out the “beast” that Samneric had spotted out was just a dead parachute man. But, before they came to this realization knowing that the beast was out there, gave them this sense of fear ,that they were being watched.

“The twins lay, inexpertly tied up (161)”
- The quote is from the scene where Samneric become Jack’s (tribe) prisoners and are later on forced join Jack’s tribe. This is a very defining moment because Ralph, the ex-chief is left alone, alone with thoughts of his friends ,who were murdered and thinking how they had turned to savagery.

“You’re sure he meant there?” “The twin moaned faintly and then squealed again“. “He meant he’d hide in there?(173)”
- Theses are quotes from Jack and one of the twins. Jack and his tribe are trying to squeal out the truth on the whereabouts of Ralph. These leads the tribe to plotting to rid themselves of Ralph, the same the got rid of Piggy. With the boulder and the fire chasing Ralph out of the forest and onto the beach, there they would encounter their savior.

Percival

“Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking the over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones… only Percival begin to whimper”
- Percival “was moused-colored”, he is one of the little ones, who needs attention and dislikes neglection, out of all the three boys, who built the castle, he was the only to cry.

“Percival had gone off crying … [Roger] sat there … throwing sand at an imaginary Percival.(51)”
- This a memorable scene ,because it shows the weakness that the little ones have, and how defenseless they are. The only thing protecting Percival from Roger (at this point) was the establishment of rules, that they had crave in to them.

“Percival Wemys Madison, The Vicarge, Harcourt St, Anthony, Hants telephone, telephone, tele-(75).”
- When Percival was asked by Piggy “what is his name was?,” he gave his full name, he said it with a touch pride, he knew who he was, and where he was from.

“I’m, I’m- (181).”
-When Percival was trying to introduce himself to the naval officer, the young boy ,who had made it a habit to repeat his full name, could not come think what his name was. This represents that even the youngest, changed their ways and resort to savagery.
